Our Story
The Institute of Social Researches is a non-governmental organization established by sociologists and psychologists 25 years ago in Georgia. The aim of the Institute is to establish democratic self-consciousness in the society through social-psychological and sociological work. All members of the Institute are experienced in the fields of social, environmental, and marketing research, monitoring & evaluation, community mobilization, conducting the trainings and conferences. Over the years, the organization has worked in the field of social research. In recent years, the Institute of Social Researches, along with other projects, has also been working to reduce tobacco harm in Georgia. The main goal of the project is to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the tobacco harm reduction strategy, both in terms of the Country and in the light of international experience. Within the framework of this project, the organization actively cooperates with various groups of doctors and scientists, including scientific groups of the tobacco industry, both in Georgia and around the world. Dozens of international studies on tobacco harm reduction were reviewed with the involvement of international and local specialists and a conference was held with the participation of medical experts. However, we must admit that the discussion on the concept of tobacco harm reduction in Georgia is only at an early stage. It is important to start an active discussion on this issue, for which it is crucial to increase the number of experts who have the latest scientific information on the issue, have their own visions based on scientific evidence and are aware of international experience and achievements.
